MIAMI BEACH, Fla. -- Barry University's Adam Svensson finished second in the prestigious South Beach International Amateur Monday.

Svensson, a junior representing Canada, shot 10-under 68-67-70-68 -- 273 in the four-day tournament held at Miami Beach Golf Club and Normandy Shores Golf Club. Gabriel Lench, a 17-year-old American, shot 68-66-71-67 -- 272. 

Lench took a two-stroke lead after making birdie on the par-5 15th. Svensson birdied 18 to pull within a stroke, but Lench made par on his final three holes to hold on for the victory. Lench had a bogey-free final round, and Svensson made three. 

In the tournament, Svensson had 21 birdies and 11 bogeys. Lench had 19 birdies and six bogeys. 

Americans Ben Griffin and Edward Figueroa finished third and fourth at 9-under 274 and 7-under 276, respectively. Barry sophomore Mike Anderson, a Parkland, Florida, native, finished in a 12-way tie for 12th. He shot 1-under 70-71-70-71 -- 282. He had 15 birdies and 12 bogeys in the tournament.

Barry sophomore Mario Beltran, of Spain, tied for 50th at 4-over 289. Junior Nico Cavero, of Doral, Florida, was 88th at 10-over 303. 

Barry will open the spring season at the Matlock Collegiate Classic Feb. 9-10 in Lakeland, Fla.
