Meet the Dean
Dr. Darlene Kluka
Dean of the School of Human Performance and Leisure Sciences
Welcome to Barry University's School of Human Performance and Leisure Sciences (HPLS). We are committed to providing varied quality educational experiences through our three distinct units: Sport and Exercise Sciences; Intercollegiate Athletics; and Campus Recreation and Wellness. The mission and values of the Adrian Dominican Sisters are reflected in our core commitments: truth and knowledge, inclusive community, social justice, and collaborative service. HPLS is unique in fulfilling aspects of Barry's mission as a Catholic International University: (1) quality academics - engaging all three learning domains (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) in the delivery of meaningful and relevant learning experiences; (2) spirituality - acknowledged through values-based professional practice among faculty, coaches, administrators, and staff; (3) ethical behavior – respect for human dignity, fair play, diverse cultural representation, equality of access and opportunity; and (4) inclusive environment - fostered by academic, physical and emotional well being of all participants in each program and by providing mentoring, health care and academic support services that enhance opportunities for success. Leaders of HPLS strive to connect locally and internationally to fulfill our social responsibility by facilitating collaborative relationships that benefit Barry University students, faculty, and staff.
On behalf of the School of HPLS, I invite you to meet with us in order to experience the Barry Spirit! You will be warmly welcomed by our faculty, staff, and students. The Barry experience is one that will make you realize that Barry IS where you belong!!!
