PHILADELPHIA -- Barry University's rowing team advanced farther than it had all year in qualifying for the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta's Division II Grand Final Saturday.

The Buccaneers 8 crew of coxswain Grace Horwitz, stroke Kristina Boncheva, Kelly Harrison, Renee Forcier, Kasia Walentynowicz, Mandy Carper, Helene Pierre, Courtney Greene and bow Rebekah Kilroy placed fifth in the prestigious regatta's Heavyweight Eight Division II Final. Barry's crew had a time of 7:20.601.

Mercyhurst won the event, Nova Southeastern was second, Central Oklahoma third and Grand Valley fourth.

Dad Vail is one of the nation's largest regattas, attracting college and open division teams from all over the country.

Barry will now await to hear if it is selected to compete in the NCAA Division II Championships May 25-27 in West Windsor, N.J., when the Selection Show reveals the national qualifiers at 5 p.m. Monday on www.ncaa.com.
