Barry Devotes Homecoming Weekend to Make-A-Wish

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University is dedicating all of its Homecoming weekend athletic events to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, beginning Friday. All alumni, family, employees and Buccaneers fans are urged to support this worthwhile cause.

Make-A-Wish is a fundraising initiative of the NCAA to grant wishes to area kids with medical conditions. This year, Barry set a goal of $15,000 to grant three wishes to local children.

In each of the past five years, Barry has raised over $10,000 to grant two wishes. This year, the university increased its goal to fund three wishes.

This weekend, Barry’s goal is to raise $5,000 to fund a wish for a local boy, Gustavo, and his family. Gustavo and his family will be on hand for a special presentation between Saturday’s women’s and men’s basketball games versus Rollins. The women’s game tips off at 4 p.m. and the men’s game at 6 p.m.

All of the proceeds from gate and concessions sales from this weekend’s baseball and basketball games will be donated to Make-A-Wish. Donation boxes will also be on site at this weekend’s baseball and basketball games. Other fundraising activities are also planned for Homecoming weekend’s events.
