INDIANAPOLIS -- Adam Svensson waited a year to notch his first win as a Barry University men's golfer. But he didn't prolong the suspense in the 2013-14 season, and his team was at the head of the class as well.

Svensson and Barry University's No. 1-ranked NCAA Division II team won the Brickyard Crossing Intercollegiate Tuesday, marking the second straight year the Bucs won both the team and individual titles. This year, Barry shot  8-under 856, holding off Central Missouri by two strokes on the 7,180-yard Brickyard Crossing Golf Course. Svensson was a runaway winner, shooting 68 for the second straight round to finish at 14-under 202.

Svensson, a sophomore from Surrey Vancouver, British Columbia, broke the school record for low round in a 54-hole tournament. The previous best was a 10-under 203, set by Carlos Velez in the 2009-10 season at the Sunshine State Conference Championships. Svensson, who did not compete in the tournament last year after signing with Barry in January, shot in the 60s in all three rounds in Indianapolis. He had a tournament-best 18 birdies, and led the 17-team, 90-player field in par 4 scoring (6-under) and par-5 scoring (8-under).

Last year the Bucs won the tournament with a 7-under 857, and Berry Jole won by a stroke at 9-under 207.

The Buccaneers, who had a five-stroke lead entering Tuesday's final round, shot eight strokes higher at 292 than they did in the second round, yet still found a way to win the tournament. Central Missouri shot 289 Tuesday, finishing at 858. Nova Southeastern was third at 875.

Barry's Jared Dalga tied for third at 2-under 214. After shooting 74 in the final round, he finished in a group with Central Missouri's Cy Morritz and Alex Springer. Missouri-St. Louis'  Colby Yates was the runner-up on the heels of his 3-under 213.

Marcelo Huarte, one of two Buccaneers to record an eagle in the event, tied with teammate Mario Beltran for 24th at 222. Scott Smyers, who also had an eagle, finished a stroke behind at 223. Huarte shot 74 Tuesday, Beltran 76 and Smyers 78.

The Buccaneers will compete in the Guy Harvey Invitational Oct. 7-8 at PGA National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens.
