KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Barry University’s soccer programs recently captured championships on the field. The men’s team made a tremendous run in the Sunshine State Conference tournament to reclaim the title in an exciting penalty kick shootout over rival Lynn University. Likewise, the women captured their first SSC regular season championship since 2004, earning the right to host the conference championships and advance to the NCAA Division II tournament for the second consecutive year.

Each of the program’s success is mirrored in the classroom. The NSCAA annually recognizes college and high school soccer programs that have excelled in the classroom, in addition to their work on the field.

A total of 862 college soccer teams (269 men, 593 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2012-13 academic year.

Of that total, 182 schools had both their men's and women's programs recognized, among them is Barry University.

This marks the sixth time the men’s soccer program has earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award and the seventh time the women’s team has received the honor, including six straight from 2008-2013.
