Golf's Carlin Finishes 9th in Dixie Amateur Championship
Chris Carlin had two eagles in the second round of the Dixie Amateur Championship, which moved him to the top of the leaderboard in the prestigious tournament. He finished tied for ninth.

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Barry University assistant golf coach Chris Carlin finished tied for ninth in the Dixie Amateur Championship at Heron Bay Golf Club.

Carlin, who led after two rounds of the prestigious amateur event featuring an 85-player field of amateurs and college players from around the world, shot 6-under 70-66-74-72 – 282. Carlin’s second round 66 was one stroke off the tournament-low shared in Sunday’s final round by co-medalists Jack Maguire and Curtis Thompson.

Carlin overcame first round leaders Andri Bjornsson of Reykjavik, Iceland and Okeechobee, Fla., native Richard Donegan, who each shot 66 Thursday. Carlin, who hails from Plantation, Fla., eagled the par-5 518-yard first hole in the second round and birdied the par-4 third to trigger a bogey-free 6-under round. He also eagled the par-4, 380-yard 14th.

In the 72-hole tournament, Carlin had seven birdies and two eagles.

Carlin, who played for Barry from 2007-11, winning three tournaments and putting together a 73.62 career scoring average, assists with both the men’s and women’s teams. Barry will open the spring schedule in February.
