WINTER PARK, Fla. (Men’s Golf) – Two-time champions, the Barry Buccaneers, dominated the 2014 All-Sunshine State Conference Men’s Golf Team announced Wednesday. Adam Svensson was named Golfer of the Year, Mario Beltran was named Freshman of the Year and head coach Jimmy Stobs was named Coach of the Year.

In addition to Svensson and Beltran, Barry also placed Jared Dalga on the first team. They were joined by Tim Crouch (Florida Southern) and Elliot Whitley (Lynn).

Earning all-conference second team honors were: Ray Badenhorst (Florida Tech), Ricardo Celia (Nova Southeastern), Santiago Gomez (Nova Southeastern), Keith Greene (Lynn) and Hunter O’Mahony (Nova Southeastern).

Rollins’ Emil Sorebo received honorable mention honors.

In his sophomore, Svensson proved why he is ranked the top golfer across all NCAA divisions. The Surrey Vancouver, British Columbia native won seven of the 10 events he entered, including the SSC Championship on April 15. In 28 rounds of golf, Svensson averaged 69.64 strokes per round, with 23 rounds of par or better and 13 in the 60s. He won his sixth tournament of the season at the Buccaneer Invitational where he set a school, tournament and course record with a second-round score of 61, which is also the low round in the country across all divisions. Svensson led No. 1 Barry to a school-record six wins this season, including the SSC Championship. He was named SSC Men’s Golfer of the Week three times this season.

In his first season from Valencia, Spain, Beltran helped lead the No. 1 Buccaneers to six tournament victories including the SSC Championship. The freshman is ranked No. 3 in the SSC by GolfStat.com. He won two individual titles and finished in the top-5 three times. In 28 rounds, Beltran averaged 72.39 strokes per round and shot a season low of 68.

Dalga was second behind only Svensson in the GolfStat rating for the conference. He carries a 72.38 stroke average and has seven top-10 finishes. In 28 rounds, he has 18 at par or better. He is second to Svensson in birdies and second to Beltran in eagles.

In his 12th season as the head coach at Barry, Stobs led his No. 1 ranked Buccaneers to their second-straight SSC Championship. His squad won a total of six tournaments, to set a school record. Barry won the SSC Championship by 18 strokes with a score of 845 (-19). Barry collected a total of nine individual titles between Svensson’s seven and Beltran’s two. The Buccaneers as a team averaged 286.64 stroke per round with a season-low of 270. For the second-straight season, Stobs’ team earned the Division II automatic qualifier and will look to repeat as NCAA Division II National Champions.

Voting for the All-SSC Men’s Golf Team was conducted among the league’s men’s golf coaches.
