SARASOTA, Fla. -- Barry University's rowing team finished second at Friday's Sunshine State Conference Championships at Nathan Benderson Park.
The No. 3-ranked Buccaneers finished with 13 points, seven behind Nova Southeastern. Barry finished ahead of Florida Tech (9 points), Rollins (6) and Tampa (2).
The Bucs Varsity 8 crew of coxswain Angela Dasch, stroke Beth Desmond, Kristina Boncheva, Sam McKenzie, Luna Ugrenovic, Jelena Momirov, Paola Girotto, Anais Foppoli and bow Mandy Carper placed second in 7:03.57. NSU won the race in 6:53.4. Rollins was third in 7:20.1.
Barry's Varsity 4 boat of cox Stephanie Dinkel, stroke Ellie Hartman, Rebekah Kilroy, Lulu Mariscal and bow Spiadgie Anthony were third with a time of 7:52.2. The Sharks won in 7:31.6, while FIT was the runner-up in 7:45.7. Barry finished ahead of Rollins and Tampa.
Dasch and Desmond were named to the All-SSC Team. Hartman was selected to the league's All-Freshmen/Novice Team.
The Buccaneers will compete in the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia May 9-10.
