MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The Barry Buccaneers blasted four home runs in the sixth inning to pull away from the Tritons in route to a 15-3 victory Friday night at Feinbloom field.
Barry (27-17, 7-12 SSC) loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth, trailing by a run and J.C. Cardenas delivered a two-out two-RBI single to put the Bucs on the scoreboard.
The Tritons (24-20, 8-11 SSC) manufactured a run in the fifth to tie the game at 2-2 as the Bucs starter Adrian Benitez surrendered just two runs in five innings and struck out six, but did not figure into the decision.
Luis Deville (3-0) entered the game in the game in the sixth in relief of Benitez and the Tritons were able to take a 3-2 lead on Rowdy Andrews’ RBI single to plate Matt MacMahon.
However, the one run lead was short-lived as the Bucs exploded for 11 runs on eight hits, including a school-record four HR’s in the frame to break the game wide open.
Adrian English led off the inning with a solo-shot to left center and after a walk, Greg Brodzinski belted a two-run bomb over the left field wall to keep the rally going.
Cardenas doubled to left and Khalil Denson singled to put both runners in scoring position. After Carlos Matamoros was retired, Luis Rios-Reyes got in on the action with a three-run HR of his own, building the Buccaneers’ lead to 8-5 and Barry was just getting started. Sheehan Planas-Arteaga and English drew back-to-back walks and Tyler Kellmann doubled down the right field line to score Planas-Arteaga.
Brodzinski’s single to left drove in two more runs and after another pitching change, Branden Shaw capped the outburst with a two run homer to right.
Barry added a run in the seventh and another in the eighth to push the deficit to 15-3 which held up as the final score.
Rios-Reyes, Planas-Arteaga, English Brodzinski and Cardenas each recorded multi-hit games in the offensive explosion and the Bucs bullpen combined to allow just one run in four innings of work.
Jesse Montalto worked a perfect eighth and Blaine Duncan tossed a scoreless ninth to seal the victory for the Bucs.
Barry will host Senior Day on Saturday, honoring five seniors playing their final games at Feinbloom field. The class, which is composed of Tyler Petsch, Joe Iorio, Calvin Rayburn, Tyler Kellmann and Adrian English, will be honored during a pre-game ceremony beginning at approximately 12:45 p.m.
