Volleyball Hosts Eckerd, Rollins Friday & Saturday in Home Openers

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University’s volleyball team will host Eckerd in the home opener Friday at 7 p.m.

It also marks the Sunshine State Conference opener for the Buccaneers (7-1) and Tritons (7-1). Barry will host Rollins (6-2) at 4 p.m. Saturday, also at the Health & Sports Center.

Both matches can be seen on LIVE VIDEO and followed via LIVE STATS on the Buccaneers Broadcasting Network. Danny Rabinowitz will handle the call.

The Buccaneers are coming off a 4-0 weekend at the East Stroudsburg Invitational, where they knocked off previously unbeaten West Chester in four sets. Eckerd beat Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras and Daeman in four sets last weekend.

"We are very excited to open the SSC season," Bucs fourth-year coach Steve Hendricks said. "We have prepared well and have had two successful pre-conference tournaments. The SSC is always tough, and I know the team is looking forward to all the rivalries and competing in the best DII conference in the country."

Barry ranks second in the SSC in total digs (449) and total blocks (66.5). Brittany Jaco leads the conference in digs per set (4.82), and Ivana Didanovic is second in blocks per set (1.31) and total blocks (34). Didanovic had 10 blocks in two matches already this year. She ranks 19th in the country in blocks per set and 25th in total blocks.

Eckerd leads the SSC in services aces (67). Katie Arnette is second in the league in aces (15), and Ali McAlvany is tied for fourth (12).

Rollins leads the conference in assists (398), digs (505) and kills (426). Jessica Wilson is 18th in the nation and the league leader in blocks (35). Collyn Welsch is the SSC leader in total digs (144).
