Women's Tennis Perfect at Grizzly Open

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Barry University’s women’s tennis players won all seven matches on the opening day of the Grizzly Open hosted by Georgia Gwinnett College Friday.

Elisabeth Abanda and Jasi Witherspoon won two doubles matches to move into the third round. Sonja Larsen and Karina Goia, and Kimmy Twelker and Ana Pain also won one pairs match. 

In singles play, Abanda was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Alabama Huntsville's Marleen Gort. Twelker cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Huntsville's Cristina Cabanas. Goia waged through a tough second set before claiming a 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) win over West Alabama's Stanzi Stuijt.

All of those singles wins came in the A Flight. Larsen and Pain received opening-round byes. Witherspoon will also begin play in the B Flight Saturday.
