Barry University men’s golfer Adam Svensson was named the Pacific Northwest Golf Association’s 2014 Men’s Player of the Year.

Svensson, a junior from Surrey, B.C., won a school-record seven tournaments in the 12 NCAA Division II events he competed in for the Buccaneers. He also was named the Jack Nicklaus Division II National Player of the Year. He shot a school-, tournament- and course-record 61 in the second round of the Buccaneer Invitational  at Normandy Shores Golf Club in Miami Beach on March 31 to propel him to one of his seven victories.

Outside of college golf, Svensson tied for fourth in the British Columbia Amateur, was seventh in the World Amateur Team Championships in Japan, where his Canadian team finished second this fall, and tied for eighth in the Canadian Amateur.

Svensson also competed in the PGA Tour’s RBC Canadian Open in the summer on an amateur’s exemption, shooting 70-71 – 141. It was the second straight year he was invited to the PGA Tour event.

He recently tied for fourth in the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic in El Paso, Texas, shooting 6-under 70-68-69 -- 207 in a 19-player field headlined by Division I's top players.
