LAKEWOOD, NJ. – Barry University’s men’s soccer team scored three unanswered goals to defeat Georgian Court University Friday afternoon, 3-1.

The Lions (3-1) struck first in the 7th minute when Ricardo Vascones scored following a free-kick to give Georgian Court a 1-0 lead

Barry (1-2-0) trailed for most of the first half despite maintaining possession and developing scoring opportunities throughout the period.

In the 41st minute, Bryan Brown crossed a ball into the box and connected with Mumbi Kwesele who slipped behind the Lions’ defense to even the match at 1-1.

Although the Bucs seemed to control the tempo for most of the first half the game remained tied heading into the break, but luckily in the second half the score reflected Barry’s dominance over the game.

Lucas Rio Torto found Thomas Coombes over the middle and Coombes then chipped the ball over the goalkeeper Rylan Gentil who was caught out of position to give Barry a 2-1 lead just five minutes into the second half.

Esteban Ochoa scored in the 65th minute to put the Bucs up 3-1, as Barry was able to put the game out of reach.

The game featured a matchup between Coach McCrath’s former assistant and now head coach of Gerogian Court Dino Raso.

Barry travels to Long Island, N.Y. Sunday to battle Dowling University in the final game of the east coast roadtrip.
