FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Former Barry University men’s soccer teammates Mark Anderson and Devala Gorrick will play against each other in the North American Soccer League opener at Lockhart Stadium when the Fort Lauderdale Strikers host the Ottawa Fury FC Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Gorrick and Anderson were teammates at Barry in 2008.
Gorrick, a goalkeeper for the Buccaneers from 2007-08, signed with the Ottawa Fury FC after spending last season with the Swedish First Division club IK Frej. Prior to that, Gorrick played three years with Pattaya United in the Thai Premier League.
Anderson is in his third season with the Strikers. As a rookie in 2012, he had a team-high 13 goals and three assists, earning a spot on the NASL Bext XI team and two NASL Offensive Player of the Week honors. Last year, injuries limited him to two goals and an assist in 11 starts.
Following his college career, Gorrick played for Miami FC of the United Soccer Leagues Pro in 2008 before signing with Bayamon FC in Puerto Rico the following season.
As a senior at Barry in 2008, Gorrick went 11-6-1 with four shutouts, a 1.64 goals against average and .769 saves percentage. In 2007, he posted a 1.46 GAA and .750 saves percentage, winning four games – all by shutout.
Anderson was the 2011 Daktronics Division II National Player of the Year after scoring 21 goals and racking up 46 points. In four years with the Buccaneers, he had 59 goals, 32 assists and 150 points.
