MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Head coach Denise Bolly’s first full recruiting class has a distinctly international feel. The Bucs have added three more newcomers for the 2014 season for the Barry University women’s soccer team.
The Buccaneers, who won the regular season title in the Sunshine State Conference, welcome another transfer and two international freshmen to a squad which returns eight starters and 13 letterwinners.
Paula Forero is a junior transfer from the NCAA Division I Miami Hurricanes. She played in five games as a freshman in 2012, with four starts, posting a 2-0-0 personal record. She recorded five saves against just one goal for a 0.396 goals against average and an 83.3 save percentage. She recorded one save and a win in a 4-0 shutout of Morehead State on August 25, 2012 in her first career start. She posted her first complete-game shutout, 3-0, over Idaho on Sept. 7, 2012.
Forero also has six caps with the U-20 Columbian National Team, posting a 2-3-1 record with a 1.33 goals against average. Her wins came against the Korean Republic (1-0) and Germany (3-1). She was called up to the senior national squad for the Women’s World Cup in 2011, but did not see any action.
Christy Grimshaw and Amanda Traynor are incoming freshmen midfielders from Scotland and both have played on the youth national teams.
Grimshaw is a central midfielder who played last season with the Aberdeen Ladies Football Club. She progressed from the reserve squad to successfully winning a starting position on ALFC, competing in the Scottish Women’s Premier League. She played in 15 games, making 13 starts and scored three goals. She has also been involved in the national team in the past.
Traynor is a winger from the Ranger Ladies Football Club, where she has played since 2009. She is a member of the Scottish FA West Regional squad and has also been selected to represent her country at the U15 and U19 levels.
The trio joins Reyah Seckler, who transferred in from Long Island University in January, in the Bucs’ 2014 class. Seckler also has international experience, having led the US team to the gold medal at the 2013 Maccabi Games in Israel.
