Buccaneers Host Make-A-Wish Carnival On Friday

MIAMI SHORES, Florida – The Barry University Athletic Department is set to close out an incredible year in their association with the Make-A-Wish Foundation with a First Pitch Carnival on Friday, April 25 at Buccaneer Field.

The Carnival is the final event during a season that has seen the Buccaneers raise over $15,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Last year, the Buccaneers athletic department was able to raise more than $10,000 to help grant two local kids’ wishes, ranking third in the nation among NCAA Division II schools, and the Bucs have raised over $80,000 over the last 10 years.

In recognition of the Buccaneers’ efforts over the last decade, Barry was one of only three schools in the country selected to host a reveal party on campus earlier this year.

In addition to the Carnival, with many activities and clinics with Barry student-athletes, the Buccaneers will host simultaneous baseball and softball games. The baseball team will take on Eckerd, while the softball team hosts Saint Leo. The First Pitch for both games will be at 6:00 pm.

There will also be a select raffle, with only 250 tickets sold at $20 each, with prizes such as 55” HDTV, Amazon Kindle Fire, Heat Playoff Tickets, Marlins Tickets, Gift Cards and more. The drawing for the raffle will occur at 7:00 pm, though winners do not have to be present to win.

The event is designed to help the  Bucs “Share the Power of a Wish” with a pair of local children in the program.

Antonio is a 16-year-old boy from Miami who has cancer.  Antonio’s most heartfelt wish is to attend the 2014 MLB All-Star Game in Minnesota.

Keion is a 7-year-old boy from Homestead who suffers from an enlarged kidney. Keion’s most magical wish will become a reality with his family when he sets sail on the Disney Cruise.

Purchase of raffle tickets are not tax deductible. Prizes valued over $600 are subject to federal income tax. Tax, title and registration fees are the responsibility of the winner. Winners will be drawn at 7:00pm on April 25, 2014 and will be notified by Barry University’s Facility & Event Management class. Winners do NOT have to be present to win prizes.
