NCAA Division II South Region I Tennis Tournament
MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— The Barry University tennis teams have been selected to host the 2013 South Region I Tennis Tournaments, April 27-29, after a strong showing the SSC Tennis Tournament last week.
The Buccaneers claimed both men's and women's titles at the SSC Tournament last week to claim automatic bids and enter the tournament as the top seed in both fields.
The women (24-0) won their fourth straight SSC title. They will face another automatic qualifier in the Stillman Tigers (30-1) at 11:30 am on Saturday.
In the other women's semifinal, the fourth-seeded Rollins Tars (13-5) will face the fifth seed, Lynn Knights (13-4) at 2:00 pm. The women's championship is set for Sunday at 9:00 am.
On the men's side, automatic qualifier Stillman (25-2) will face Alabama-Huntsville (14-11) at 9:00 am on Saturday.
The winner of that match will play the host Buccaneers (23-0) on Sunday at 11:30 am. In the second semifinal, fourth-seeded Rollins (13-10) will take on fifth seed Saint Leo (15-5) at 2:00 pm. The championship match is set for 10:00 am on Monday.
The winner of the regional tennis tournament will advance to the NCAA Division II Tennis Championship in Surprise, Ariz., May 8-11. The championships consist of a 16-team single elimination tournament.
