MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University volleyball coach Steve Hendricks will host three camps in June and July.
An individual skills camp runs June 18-22. An advanced skills camp runs July 23-26. A third individual skills camp is set for July 27-29.
The first camp is open to girls and boys entering fifth through eighth grades this fall. The advanced camp is open to all girls attending high school in the fall. The last camp is open to boys and girls entering fifth through eighth grades in the fall.
Hendricks is entering his second year as head coach at Barry. He played four years at Ball State University, where he competed in three NCAA Final Fours. He began his coaching career as a student-athlete, and helped lead Muncie Burris High School to the Indiana State Championship and the Munciana Volleyball Club to a fifth place finish at the USA Junior Olympics. Following his playing career, he coached at the college level at Tennessee, Notre Dame and the University of San Francisco. Returning to the prep ranks in 2004, Hendricks coached the Celtic Force VBC to the 17s USA Junior Olympic National Championship and the Great Lakes Region High Performance Team to a fourth place finish in a national tournament. Most recently, he assisted the University of New Mexico program to an appearance in the NCAA tournament in 2009 and 2010.
He will be assisted by Barry assistant Katie McCrath. In addition to her stint as a grad assistant at Barry, she served as the head coach at Westminster Academy in Fort Lauderdale. While at Westminster, McCrath guided the Lions to back-to-back district and regional championships in 2009 and 2010, a state Final Four finish in 2009, and the team finished as the runner-up in the Florida High School 2A championship in 2010. McCrath was named the Miami Herald 2A Volleyball coach of the year in 2009 and Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel 2A Coach of the Year in 2010. McCrath interned with USA Volleyball in 2008 during the Olympic Year. As a player McCrath finished her career at Seattle Pacific University.
