BJ Hiapo was named a volunteer assistant coach at Barry University in the summer of 2012.
Prior to moving to Miami Shores, Hiapo was a volunteer assistant coach for Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Arizona. He also was the head coach of the Molten Volleyball Club boys and girls clubs, guiding the girls to the region championship and the boys to the bronze medal in 2012. Hiapo served as an assistant coach of the girls and boys teams at his alma mater, Highland High in Gilbert, Ariz.
As a player, Hiapo was the starting libero for Brigham Young University, spending time in Utah from 2008-11. He led the Cougars in digs and digs per set in 2011. He also received academic all-conference honors. In 2006, he was a First Team all-conference setter at Long Beach City College, which captured California’s junior college state championship.
Hiapo was the Arizona State Boys Volleyball Player of the Year as a senior at Highland High. He was a three-time all-state selection. He established school career, season and match assists records. He was the Fiesta Region Player of the Year as a senior and a four-time all-region choice.
As a club player, Hiapo was an All-American in 2005 and two-time region champ with Molten VBC.
Hiapo is married to Barry volleyball player Jeni Hiapo.
