WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Barry University's Varsity 8 has been tabbed Sunshine State Conference Boat of the Week presented by VALIC.

The Buccaneers 8 defeated Florida Tech in a head-to-head race at Canal 54 on Saturday. Rowing with five new crew members, the Buccaneers crossed the finish line in 6:38.8, outpacing the Panther crew's time of 7:07.9.

Combining for the win were coxswain Grace Horwitz (Chicago, Ill.), Kristina Boncheva (Sofia, Bulgaria), Anna Boada (Barcelona, Spain), Rosie Boncheva (Sofia, Bulgaria), Monika Kaminska (Walcz, Poland), Beth Desmond (Cape May, N.J.), Helene Pierre (North Lauderdale, Fla.), Emma Howard (Newton Square, Pa.), and Kelly Harrison (Fairfax, Va.).
