Softball Ends Run In Regional Final

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.—The Barry Buccaneers bowed out of the NCAA Division II South Region 2 Softball Tournament after falling 12-2 in six innings to the host Alabama-Huntsville Chargers at UAH Charger Park on Sunday.

The Chargers (42-15) scored early and kept on the pressure the whole game to end the Buccaneers’ season in the regional final. UAH pounded out 13 hits, including four doubles and scored 12 runs.

Megan Copeland went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and a walk and scored one of the Bucccaneers’s two runs in the sixth inning.

Whitney Gilbert (15-7) worked into the sixth inning to earn the win for the Chargers. She allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks and struck out three. Alexis Yohe (20-8) closed out her Buccaneer career and was charged with the loss.

For the Buccaneers, they finished the season tied for 17th in the country. It was their 17th trip to the NCAA Tournament and their best showing at the regional since winning it in 2008.
