Women's Tennis' Maehama Named to Academic All-District Team

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry women's tennis player Akemi Maehama was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic At-Large All-District Team.

Maehama, a junior from Tokyo, Japan, has a 3.87 grade point average in physical education. She also received the same honor and Third-Team Academic All-America acclaim in 2012.

Through three years with the Buccaneers program, Maehama is 38-1 as a singles player. She went 19-1 this year, winning 16 matches without a defeat to end the season. She was 5-1 in doubles this year, and is 13-1 in pairs play in her career.

Maehama was also an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar All-American in 2012.
