Women's Soccer Rides Hat-Trick To Win Over Wolves

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers rode a Lauren Manna hat-trick to a 3-1 win over the West Georgia Wolves on Saturday at Buccaneer Field.

The Bucs (2-0-0) dominated the Wolves, holding a 26-4 edge in shots, 11-2 on goal. Manna gave Barry an early lead. Ashley Harlan got loose at the top of the 18-yard box and ripped a shot at West Georgia keeper Mary Laza, who got the deflection but could not wrap up the ball. Manna was there to knock in the rebound in the seventh minute.

That was all the scoring in the first half, though the Bucs missed several open nets.

Early in the second half, the Bucs got a little loose with their marking and Ashlynn Deese was able to slip a pass through the middle of the defense to Cortney Emmert whose shot to the far post beat Barry keeper Becca Rogers. It was the first shot of the game for the Wolves, coming in the 56th minute.

The game stayed knotted until Chelsea Stoeckigt slipped a pass to a racing Manna down the middle of the Wolves’ defense in the 79th minute. One on one with Laza, Manna chipped the ball over the keeper from 12 yards out. Just 1:01 later, Lavinia Nkomo intercepted a pass and again found Manna racing behind the defense for a one-on-one opportunity. Manna touched the ball around Laza and slotted the ball into the net.

Rogers picked up her second straight win, making one save. Laza had seven saves for the Wolves.

The Bucs return to action on Friday, Sept. 13 at 7:00 pm hosting the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish.
