FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Barry University's Ahmed Triki and Eduardo Alfonzo both won singles matches at the Florida Gulf Coast Fall Invitational Friday.
Triki, a newcomer who had not played in three years, beat Santiago Munoz of the University of Arkansas, 6-3, 6-3, in the Blue singles opening round. Alfonzo was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Florida Atlantic's John Nowak in the Green first round. Triki and Alfonzo both lost their second round matches, however.
Junior Kevin Sielmann won his Gold bracket match, beating FAU's Trey Nickerson, 6-3, 6-3. Bucs freshman Nico Dreer was a 6-2, 6-2 winner in his Gold match against Boston College's AJ Aziz, 6-2, 6-2.
Barry's Leo Vivas fell to FAU's Will Neuner, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (4) in the Blue bracket. Bucs teammate Fabian Groetsch lost to FAU's Rich Meade, 6-1, 6-3, in the Blue opening round. Renato Lombardi, another Barry player, dropped a 6-4, 6-3 match to Miami's Gabriel Flores.
Vivas won a consolation match over Boston College's Kyle Childree, 6-4, 6-4. Groetsch won his consolation match with Arkansas' Hall Fess, 7-5, 6-1.
Lombardi fell in a three-set consolation round battle to Boston College's Jonathan Raude, 6-3, 3-6, 10-6.
Franco Echenique was a first-round loser in the Green Bracket to Miami's Henrique Tsukamoto, 6-3, 6-0. He also dropped his consolation match.
Alfonzo and Echenique were 8-4 winners over Boston College's Hank Workman and Christian McKean in the Green doubles qualifying round.
