MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University men’s basketball team announced the additions of power forward/center Tray Leonard and guard Josh Irving for the upcoming season.
Leonard, a 6-8, 280-pound junior who transferred from Division I Fordham, averaged 4.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game as a sophomore with the Rams last year. He also blocked 22 shots and had 22 steals.
Leonard scored a season-high 10 points, going 5 of 8 from the field, while grabbing four rebounds versus Colgate. He had 10 points and a career-high nine rebounds in the opening round win over George Mason at the Atlantic 10 Championships. As a freshman, Leonard averaged 6.3 points and 4.3 rebounds to go along with 16 blocks. He scored a career-best 13 points and had eight rebounds in a win over Rhode Island. He had nine rebounds and 10 points against Butler.
Leonard is the sixth Division I transfer to Barry under coach Butch Estes, in his second year with the Buccaneers.
Irving, a 5-9, 160-pound sophomore, transferred to Barry after spending his freshman season at Lake Forest (Ill.) College. He averaged 5.5 points, shot 36.4 percent from three-point range, dished out 47 assists and grabbed 54 rebounds in 22 games with the Foresters.
Irving and Leonard join DI transfers Jevoni Robinson and Anders Haas and freshman Hunter Osceola, an early signee last November, in making up this year's incoming class.
Barry, which is coming off an NCAA Tournament appearance last year, will open the season with a pair of road exhibitions against Louisville (Nov. 1) and Florida (Nov. 6) before tipping off the regular season Friday, Nov. 14 at home versus cross-town rival Johnson & Wales in the Health & Sports Center.
