SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – Barry University women’s golf team finished second at the season-opening Ross Resorts Invitational Tuesday.

The Buccaneers shot 919, finishing a stroke behind Nova Southeastern. Host Rollins was third at 926. Barry shot 311 in the final round of the eight-team, 48-player field.

Barry’s Martina Bertuccioli finished second at 224, following a final-round 73 on the par-72, 6,171-yard Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club course. She finished a stroke behind individual champion Madison Lellyo of Rollins, who shot 75 in the final round. It was her best career finish. 

NSU’s Liliana Cammisa was third at 225 after shooting 80 Tuesday, and teammate Jamie Freedman was fourth at 226 after a 75.

Barry’s Nicky Ferre finished seventh, shooting 79 for a 229 54-hole total. Maria Paola Fiorio tied for 14th at 233 after shooting 80 in the third round. Daniela Murray shot 79 for a 238 to finish tied for 19th. Nancy Vergara tied for 26th at 242 after shooting 84 in the last round.

The Buccaneers will play in the Guy Harvey Invitational at PGA National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Oct. 6-7.
