PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Barry University women’s golf team shot 316 in the first round of the Guy Harvey Invitational Monday, and is tied for 10th place.
The Buccaneers are tied with Flagler, a stroke behind Armstrong State, Indianapolis and Florida Southern. Lynn leads Nova Southeastern’s tournament after shooting 305 on the PGA National Golf Club Palmer Course’s 6,163-yard layout. NSU is second at 18-over 306. Cal Baptist is third at 307.
Barry’s Martina Bertuccioli and Maria Paola Fiorio both shot 4-over 76, and are tied for 12th. Houria El Abbadi shot 79 in her first collegiate round, and is tied for 29th entering Tuesday’s final round. Nicky Ferre shot 85, and is tied for 62nd. Carolina Heredia shot 87.
This marks the season debut for both El Abbadi and Heredia.
Cal Baptist’s Marvi Monsalve, Savannah College of Art & Design’s Alazne Urizar, Nova’s Mailen Domecq Chantry and Saint Leo’s Lauren Petty each shot 73 to grab a share of the lead. Incarnate Word’s Jamie Bibby and Flagler’s Marie Santacroce are tied for fifth after shooting 2-over 74.
In the 97-player field, 16 golfers are within three strokes of the lead in the 18-team tournament.
