Brolly Tabbed As Women's Soccer Regional Coach of the Year

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Barry head women’s soccer coach Denise Brolly added another award this week as she was named the NCAA Division II South Region Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Brolly, who has led the Buccaneers to two straight Sunshine State Conference titles in her two years at the helm, was also named the SSC Coach of the Year for the second time this season. She led the Bucs to an 11-2-3 mark overall, 7-0-1 in the SSC. The Bucs hosted the SSC Tournament finals and NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament. In two seasons, Brolly has compiled a 23-6-6 mark, including 14-0-2 in the SSC.

Her players have also won their share of awards. Junior midfielder Lavinia Nkomo was named the Player of the Year in the SSC and earned spots on the All-Region teams for both the NSCAA and Daktronics. She was picked to the second-team All-America squad by the NSCAA and was honorable mention on Daktronics. Sophomore defender Katie Turner was named the co-Defensive Player of the Year on the All-SSC team, while freshman midfielder Christy Grimshaw was the SSC Freshman of the Year.
