Sanderson has been tabbed to helm the women’s rowing program at Barry
University, becoming
the fourth head coach in program history.
He spent the past year as an assistant coach with the University of Miami
women under head coach Debra Morgan, helping lead the Hurricanes to a fourth-place
finish at the ACC Regatta.
Before coming to UM, Coach Sanderson was the assistant varsity coach for
the Boston University men's crew. Sanderson was with BU for three seasons
and helped push the program to a best-ever finish of 6th place at the 2005
IRA National Championships.
Prior to BU Sanderson coached at Community Rowing in Newton, Mass., as
the head coach of the competitive men's sweep program where his crews won
medals at US Club and Masters National Championships.
Sanderson also coached
the US heavyweight men's double sculls to a bronze medal at the 2003
Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic. In 1989, he began rowing
at the Narragansett Boat Club in Providence, R.I. He later attended Yale
University, class of 1998, where he earned a BA in American studies and
rowed on the lightweight crew. While at Yale, Sanderson was a member
of three varsity lightweight crews earning two bronze medals and one
silver medal at Eastern Sprints and a silver medal at the IRA National
Championship regatta.
Sanderson competed
for the United States at the World Rowing Championships as a member of
the 1997 lightweight men's pair and the 1999 lightweight men's quadruple
sculls. He has also raced the single, winning the Lightweight Single
event at the prestigious Head of Charles Regatta in 1998 and 1999.
A native of Providence,
R.I., Sanderson and his wife Taber live now in Miami.
