Women's Tennis Hosts Nova Southeastern Wednesday

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. --  Barry University’s No. 5-ranked women’s tennis team hosts No. 16 Nova Southeastern 2 p.m. Wednesday at Buccaneer Tennis Center.

The Bucs (6-0, 4-0 Sunshine State Conference) begin a stretch of four matches over a five-day span. They leave for Valdosta, Ga., with the men’s team on Thursday to play West Florida, Valdosta State and Clayton State Friday-Sunday.

Karina Goia and Emma Onila are both 6-0 in singles for the Buccaneers. Nineteenth-ranked Linda Fritschken and Akemi Maehama are 5-1. Elisabeth Abanda and Onila are 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Kimmy Twelker and Fritschken are 5-0 at No. 2 doubles. Fritschken also has a doubles win with Isabela Miro.

The Sharks enter Wednesday’s match with a 3-3 overall, 2-2 SSC record. Luisa Pintado is 4-1 in singles, and Bianca Roberts is 3-2. Sabrina Kierberg and Austin Lavallii are 2-0 in pairs play, as are Alexandra Johansson and Roberts.

Barry has beaten Nova Southeastern five straight years. The Sharks’ last win over the Buccaneers was a 6-3 verdict in Davie, Fla., in 2007.
