INDIANAPOLIS -- Earlier in the day, Barry University men's golf coach Jimmy Stobs said he could hear the Indy cars racing around the nearby oval tracks. Naturally, there was plenty of noise. But on the track his team was confined to, it was loud for an entirely different reason.

"It's pretty neat to see how fast they go. Of course, now I am deaf," Stobs quipped.

The No. 1-ranked Buccaneers got off to a fast start themselves in the opening two rounds of the 17-team Brickyard Crossing Intercollegiate at Brickyard Crossing Golf Course, shooting 280-284 -- 564 on the 7,180-yard track. The Bucs 12-under 36-hole total leads the tournament, which concludes Tuesday. by five strokes over Central Missouri, which shot 569. Indianapolis Crimson is third at 8-over 584.

Barry sophomore Adam Svensson, who had a bogey-free opening round, shot 66-68 -- 134. His 10-under two-round total, which came in cool and breezy conditions, stands six strokes above teammate Jared Dalga and Central Missouri's Teddy Jones at the top of the leaderboard. Dalga shot 70-70 -- 140, and is tied with Jones, whose 72-68 -- 140 equaled the Bucs senior at 4-under.

Svensson has 12 birdies through the first two rounds.

Central Missouri's Travis Mays shot a 3-under 141, and is fourth. Lynn's Keith Greene is among a pack of four tied for fifth at 2-under 142.

Buccaneers senior Scott Smyers is tied for 14th, following his 1-over 145 first-day effort. He shot 73 in the opening round before settling for par in the second. Playing in his first collegiate event, freshman Mario Beltran shot 72-74 -- 146, and is tied for 15th. Senior Marcelo Huarte is tied for 23rd at 148 after shooting 72-76.

Final round action in the University of Indianapolis tournament begins with an 8:30 a.m. CST shotgun start.
