MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Barry University assistant men’s golf coach Chris Carlin, former Buccaneer players Carlos Velez, James Bowery and Preston Roberts and current Bucs women's player Daniela Murray won Friday’s team tournament in the Buccaneer Golf Day at Normandy Shores Golf Club.

The winning quintet shot a 55 on the 6,805-yard, par 71 course played in a scramble format, claiming the top spot in a scorecard playoff. They beat current Bucs women’s player Carolina Heredia, JW Howard, Chris O’Connor, Doug Ritter and Russell Olsen, who also combined to shoot 55 in perfect sunny conditions on the No. 1-ranked Buccaneers’ home course.

It was the largest turnout in the eight-year history of Buccaneer Golf Day. Normandy Shores entertained 75 golfers on a day where over $1,000 was raised for the Pals-4-Paws charity Barry University and the golf program supports.

Each group featured at least one member of the current Buccaneer men’s or women’s team. Barry players were allowed to play only one shot per hole.

“I am extremely grateful to all of the supporters of Buccaneer golf,” two-time NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year Jimmy Stobs said. “It’s always a fun event that helps build camaraderie with the community, and we at Barry University, and specifically the men’s golf program, are always excited to host and interact with all of our guests. We feel a special connection to the local community, and we certainly appreciate all their support.”

IN-THE-HOLE: Gerry Upthegrove had a hole-in-one on the 104-yard No. 14 hole. Upthegrove used a 50-degree wedge on a hole with downhill wind, spinning his shot back into the cup after it landed behind the pin.
