Goia Named SSC Women's Tennis Player of Week

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Barry University sophomore Karina Goia has been recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week presented by VALIC.

The No. 19 singles player recorded three wins at No. 3 singles against three top-25 ranked teams last week, including a 6-4, 6-0 win over No. 16 Marlen Hacke of No. 1 Armstrong Atlantic. The No. 3 Buccaneers defeated the top-ranked Pirates, 5-4, to remain undefeated. The Arad, Romania, native defeated No 21 Nova Southeastern's and No. 8 Saint Leo's No. 3 singles players to remain unbeaten. Goia teamed with Isabela Miro for two No. 3 doubles victories against Eckerd and Armstrong Atlantic.

Goia improved to 5-0 in singles with two wins over ranked opponents, and 5-1 in doubles this year.
