MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers (20-15, 5-10 SSC) lost twice to the Lynn Knights on Saturday to drop their Sunshine State Conference softball series. The Knights won 6-0 and 5-3 in the two games.
FIRST GAME
Kasey Murray (9-12) scattered five hits to shutout the Bucs in game one. She walked five and struck out two.
The Knights (20-22, 4-14 SSC) scored four runs in the first inning off Barry starter Taylor Sabol (6-7). Murray had an RBI double and scored a run.
Lynn added two runs in the seventh off reliever Britney Pugh. Crystal Cano knocked in Murray with a single and Kaci Vassallo scored on an error.
Sabol allowed four runs in an inning-plus of work, giving up four hits and a walk.
SECOND GAME
The Knights banged out four runs in the first three innings, though only one was earned, and cruised to a 5-3 win.
Cherise McEnery led off the second with a homer to center field off Barry starter Camille Czarnecki (8-4).
Danielle McNeil had a two-run double in the third and Vassallo added a run on a double in the fourth to make it 5-0.
The Bucs rallied for three runs in the fifth, ringing out four straight hits with one out. Kayla Ogle had a bunt single and Megan Copeland shot one through the left side. Hunter Mars ripped a shot back up the middle and Ogle, who had held at third, scored on an error by Lynn center fielder Sara Vazquez. Julie Brito knocked in Copeland with a single to right center and Mars scored on a squeeze bunt by Kristina Pazienza.
Missy Montgomery (8-7) went the distance to earn the win for Lynn. She gave up three runs on eight hits and two walks and struck out three. Czarnecki took the loss for Barry, allowing four runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks in three innings.
The Bucs host the Florida Tech Panthers next weekend.
