WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Barry University's Varsity 8 has been named Sunshine State Conference Boat of the Week presented by VALIC. It is the first time this year Barry has won the league's honor.

The No. 2-ranked Buccaneers 8 won two races at the San Diego Crew Classic. The Bucs won the first event in a time of 7:16.4 to beat second-place finisher No. 5 UC-San Diego by 5.5 seconds. In the Grand Final, Barry won the race in a time of 7:16.12 to win by more than four seconds. The Buccaneers beat No. 5 UC-San Diego by 22 seconds and No. 6 Central Oklahoma by 12 seconds. Combining for the wins were coxswain Angela Dasch (Sebastian, Fla.), Mandy Carper (Dover, N.H.), Anais Foppoli (Thonon, France), Paola Girotto (Rijeka, Croatia), Jelena Momirov (Zrenjanin, Serbia), Luna Ugrenovic (Belgrade, Serbia), Sam McKenzie (West Cornwall, Conn.), Kristina Boncheva (Sofia, Bulgaria) and Beth Desmond (Cape May, N.J.).
