Men's Tennis: Dreer, Echenique Win Doubles Title

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Barry University men’s tennis doubles partners Franco Echenique and Nico Dreer won the Flight B doubles championship Sunday at the Varner Invitational.

Echenique and Dreer defeated Troy’s Giovani Samaha and Austin Racine, 8-5, in the championship match at Rollins College.

In the C Bracket singles final, Barry’s Ajdin Tahirovic lost to Lynn’s Paolo Volpicelli, 6-2, 6-3. Tahirovic beat Rollins Mike Santa Lucia, 6-3, 6-4, in the semifinals earlier Sunday.

Echenique defaulted to Central Florida’s Jesse Flores in the B consolation singles final.

Barry’s Austin Cruz fell in the C consolation singles final to Saint Leo’s Oscar Nurmio, 6-2, 6-0.

Barry senior Fabian Groetsch will compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Small College singles championships Thursday through Sunday in Sumter, South Carolina.
