Women's Tennis: Twelker, Pain Win All-Bucs Final

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Barry University women’s tennis reached the finals in both singles and doubles at the Georgia Gwinnett College’s Grizzly Open, coming away with one title.

In an all-Buccaneers final, Ana Pain and Kimmy Twelker beat Sonja Larsen and Karina Goia, 9-7, to win the doubles final.

After beating teammate Sonja Larsen in the semifinals, 7-5 6-3, Elisabeth Abanda moved on to the Flight A singles finals before falling to Gwinnett’s Valeria Podda, 6-2, 6-3.

It was Abanda’s first finals appearance this fall.

Twelker and Pain beat Podda and Klara Dohnalova, 8-3, in the semifinals. Larsen and Goia were also 8-3 semifinal winners, beating Emory’s Anna Fuhr and Katarina Su.  

Barry will conclude the fall season at the FIU Fall Invitational Oct. 31-Nov. 2 for the majority of the team, while Emma Onila and Linda Fritschken compete in the ITA Indoor Championships in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. Nov. 6-9.
