Rowing: Varsity 8+ Takes 6th at Head of Charles
Barry finished sixth in the Collegiate Eights race at Head of the Charles.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Barry University rowing's Varsity 8+ finished sixth at the Head of the Charles Sunday in the Collegiate Eights event.

The Buccaneers crew of coxswain Angela Dasch, stroke Sara Rus Alba, Ellie Hartman, Luna Ugrenovic, Beth Desmond, Sam McKenzie, Stefanie Sciolaro, Jelena Momirov and Mandy Carper finished in 17:56. It was Barry's best time at the highly-regarded fall regatta.

Bates won the race in 17:25, Trinity was second in 17:27, Wellesley third in 17:42, Grand Valley State fourth in 17:47 and Walsh College fifth in 17:51 in the 30-boat race. Barry emerged from the 25th starting position to pass the majority of the race field.

"This was another great day for the Buccaneers," Barry coach Boban Rankovic said. "Considering our starting position ... we needed to pass other boats and still maintain the shortest line down the course. The course is know for its demanding turns, and can be won or lost by the steering. Trying to pass other crews can make it seem like a long obstacle course.

"I'm proud of the ladies who raced today in the 8+ and yesterday in the 4+, as our program represented Bally well, and showed great depth and speed."
