Volleyball Overpowers The Panthers

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers over-powered the Florida Tech Panthers in straight sets Friday night in the Health & Sports Center, winning 25-16, 25-21, 25-15 in their Sunshine State Conference volleyball match.

The Bucs (16-8, 6-5 SSC) jumped out quickly on the Panthers and never let up. The defense held the Panthers (9-17, 1-10 SSC) to a negative hitting percentage in the first set, eight kills against nine errors on 34 swings.

For the match, the Buccaneers kept the Panthers from gaining any momentum by siding out on 69 percent of their chances. Florida Tech managed only 54 percent.

Tashalyn Begon and Kristina Boncheva paced a balanced Buccaneer attack with seven kills each. Jayla Trombley added six, while Ivana Didanovic had five. Jenny Trinidad directed the offense with 24 assists. Trombley and Brittany Jaco led the defense with 10 and 12 digs respectively. Laine Cielena had five total blocks as the Bucs owned the play at the net.

Kim Juriga and Marilyn Dick each had seven kills for Florida Tech. Ashtin Truesdale and Payton Bayless shared setting duties and had 17 and 11 assists.

The Bucs host the Lynn Knights on Saturday at 4:00 pm.
