MIAMI, Fla.—Ashley Lutz hit a three-pointer with five seconds left to lift the Barry Buccaneers over the Stillman Tigers 78-76 in the Nova Southeastern Thanksgiving Women’s Basketball Classic on Saturday.
The Bucs (4-2) had led by as many as 13 in the second half, but the Tigers (0-6) clawed their way back into the contest and took a 71-69 lead with 4:34 to play on a pair of free throws by Earnicia Washington. The lead swung back and forth, but Stillman led 76-75 with 0:17 seconds left after Angel Mitchell hit one of two from the line.
Lutz drained the winning trey from the left corner and Mitchell’s answering three-pointer clanged off the rim, giving the Bucs the win.
Jackie Perez led the Bucs with a game-high 19 points. Nyjah Porcher added 16 points, 12 rebounds and three assists. Lutz had 12 and Kaila Britten had a career-high 10 points. For the Tigers, Washington led the way with 17 points, including 5-of-5 from three-point range. Mitchell added 16 points, while Samantha Thomas had 11 and Sheyene Turner had 10.
The Tigers hit 12-of-22 from three-point range, a night after shooting just 3-of-20 against Nova Southeastern. Barry was 20-of-22 from the free throw line and held a 37-32 edge on the boards.
The Bucs open Sunshine State Conference play on Saturday, Dec. 6 when they host the Saint Leo Lions.
