MIAMI – The Barry University women's basketball team traveled to the Miami Rescue Mission on Monday, Jan. 5 to help serve food to the homeless. Fourteen student-athletes and three coaches served over 650 meals to homeless men, women and children who came to receive a warm dinner.

"The visit was a very humbling and eye-opening experience," said junior guard Kim Flournoy. "It was great to give back to the community and I am grateful that we were able to serve others and help make a difference in people's lives."

Junior center Kaila Britten concurred. "Spending the day volunteering at the Miami Rescue Mission was a humbling experience," Britten said. "It was rewarding for us as a team to be able to bond all the while helping the community. Seeing the homeless and their grateful faces made the experience that much more enjoyable."

"It was gratifying to see the members of our women basketball team spending a few hours serving meals to the homeless," head coach Bill Sullivan said. I was impressed with our team's caring and compassionate spirit as they helped people in need."

Since 1922, the Miami Rescue Mission has provided meals, shelter, life-changing programs—and hope—to men, women and children in need. Last year, over 550,000 meals and 220,000 nights of safe shelter were provided to people in need, touching the lives of thousands of men, women, and children.
