Fred Jungemann begins his third year with the Bucs for the 2009 season. He came to Barry in 2007 after serving 12 years in high school and collegiate coaching positions.

Jungemann became only the fifth coach in the program’s 23-year history, bringing over 15 years of coaching experience to the Buccaneer program. He replaced former head coach Kyllene Carter-Weiss, who headed the program for six seasons, compiling a 74-23-10 record.

In his first season with the Bucs, Jungemann lead the team to an 8-9 overall record, 2-6 in the SSC. In 2008, Jungemann improved to a 9-8-1 overall record.

Prior to joining Barry, Jungemann spent two seasons as the assistant men’s and women’s coach at California State University-Los Angeles. While as CSU-LA, Jungemann taught activity classes in the kinesiology department and helped lead both men and women’s teams to great success.

Under Jungemann’s assistance, the Golden Eagles’ men’s soccer team completed its most successful season in 12 years by winning the CCAA (California Collegiate Athletic Association) South Division title and bringing them to the second round of the NCAA Division II national tournament.

During both years of Jungemann’s coaching at CSU-LA, the women achieved their most successful season in the program’s history. With a defeat over the second-ranked team in the nation at the time, the Golden Eagles ended their 60- game regular season winning streak.

Prior to his stint at CSU-LA, Jungemann spent seven years coaching at the Division II and junior college levels on the west coast.

From 2002-04, Jungemann served as the assistant coach to the Sonoma State University men’s soccer team for three seasons. During his tenure at SSU, the Seawolves earned two CCAA North Division titles and won the NCAA Far West Region Championship. Most notably, the Seawolves claimed the NCAA Division II National Championship title in 2002 with Jungemann aboard. In addition to the team, Jungemann also found time to broaden his horizons off the field. He participated in two coach’s education tours in Europe, managed referees for the Sports City Indoor Soccer Arenas, and taught in the kinesiology department at SSU.

In 2001, Jungemann was the assistant coach to the men’s soccer team at Grand Canyon University. In that season, the team qualified for the CCAA conference championship.

Jungemann also spent three seasons on the coaching staff at Phoenix College (1998-2000). He spent one year as the assistant coach to both men and women’s team before becoming the women’s head coach for the 1999-2000 seasons. Under his leadership, the Bears qualified for the playoffs in both seasons for the first time in five years which included a win over the defending national champions, Johnson Community College, in the second season. Jungemann’s team also earned Team Academic All-American awards both years, filling the team’s roster for the first time in three years.

Jungemann also brings experience at the club and high school levels in addition to youth camps. Since 1992, he has coached boys and girls youth teams in Arizona and California, most recently with the U15 and U18 boys teams in Rohnert Park, Calif., and directed camps for MLS Soccer Camps from 2000-02.

Jungemann coached high school soccer in the Phoenix area from 1995-99, including leading Arizona Boy’s Ranch High to the state soccer title and Moon Valley High to a boys state soccer runner-up finish.

Jungemann played six years with professional teams in the CISL, USISL, and WSL, primarily in Airzona, as well as two years on the collegiate level at Glendale Community College and Scottsdale Community College. He earned his B.A.S. in integrative studies from Arizona State.
