Women's Basketball To Tipoff Sunshine State Conference Play

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.--In a rematch of the Sunshine State Conference quarterfinals from last year, the women's basketball team tips off league play on Saturday hosting the Florida Tech Panthers at 2:00 pm in the Health & Sports Center.

The Bucs (5-0) are off to a great start on the season and currently are one of the four teams in the SSC with an undefeated record. Junior Colette Eule and sophomore Jackie Perez have been the catalysts for the surge. Eule leads the Bucs scoring 16.0 points per game and dishing out 4.4 assists per game, while grabbing 6.4 rebounds per contest. Perez has been right behind her scoring 12.6 points per game and she is tied with Eule and Dominique Dixon for the lead in steals. Between Eule and Perez, they have led the team in scoring all five games, three for Eule, one for Perez and one where they tied. Dixon has been the team's top rebounder at 7.4 per game, while also averaging 4.0 assists and 7.4 points. Amanda Frontino is chipping in 9.6 points and 5.0 rebounds.

The Panthers started out hot, winning their first three games, but have dropped their last two by a combined 51 points. Junior 5-9 forward Jasmire Brown lead the team in scoring at 14.2 per game, followed by 5-7 sophomore guard Kayk Wilson at 12.8 per game. Freshman BreAnn Davis (5-10) leads the team in rebounding at 4.4, but six other Panthers are grabbing at least three board per game.

The Buccaneers and Panthers hosted similar opponents in Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras and Puerto Rico-Mayaguez in the opening non-conference portion of their schedule. Barry torched UPR-Rio Piedras by a score of 76-42, while having four players in double fi gures. The Panthers knocked off UPR-Rio Piedras in their season opener by a score of 85-37 with 12 of 13 available players contributing on the scoresheet. Against UPR-Mayaguez, Barry raced out to a 35-17 halftime lead before knocking off the Janes, 68-43. FIT also took a large halftime lead, 45-22, and went on to defeat UPR-Mayaguez by a score of 81-46.
