Barry Honors Student-Athletes with Perfect Grades

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Barry University honored its student-athletes who earned a 4.0 grade point average in the fall term at the homecoming basketball game Wednesday night.

Barry's student-athletes set academic records in the classroom in the fall as all 12 teams had GPAs above 3.0.

"This event was to recognize their efforts and their success, specifically the 4.0 students," said Barry's School of Human Performance and Leisure Sciences Assistant Dean Maritza Ryder, who oversees academic support services for student-athletes.

Members of the school's Executive Committee of Administration, deans and coaches greeted and presented the academic scholar-athletes with their awards.

The students who achieved a 4.0 in the fall were: Billy Atkins (baseball, computer info sciences), Laine Cielena (volleyball, finance), Natalie Diaz (women's soccer, biology), Colette Eule (women's basketball, biology), Sofia, Jakobsson (women's soccer, exercise science), Houghton Kinsman (men's soccer, art), Akemi Maehama (women's tennis, physical education), Jackie Perez (women's basketball, education), Connor Randel (men's soccer, finance), Johnny Rodrigues (men's soccer, finance) and Alex Decker (baseball, sport management).

"We're really, really proud of our student-athletes, and their successes," Ryder said. "This event was held to share and celebrate their successes with the entire Barry community."
