MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Boban Rankovic, who was named acting head coach on Sept. 3, has been promoted to full-time head coach of the women’s rowing program at Barry University, director of athletics Michael L. Covone announced on Thursday.

Rankovic becomes the fifth head coach in program history, taking over from Dave Sanderson who resigned this summer to take over the varsity program at the University of Miami.

Rankovic has served as the assistant coach of the Buccaneers for the past two seasons, helping lead Barry to a runner-up finish at the NCAA Division II Championships in 2013. The Buccaneers won team titles at the Dad Vail Regatta, Knecht Cup, Sunshine State Conference Championships and Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships last season.

Rankovic coached the Varsity 4 crew to a title at the Knecht Cup and FIRA Championships and runner-up finishes at the NCAA Championships, Dad Vail and SSC Championships in 2012. Barry has qualified for the NCAA Championships in both of Rankovic’s first two years with the university.

Prior to Barry, Rankovic, a former Serbian National Team and Olympic rower, served as the interim head coach at the University of Miami and was head coach at Dowling from 2001-2004.

The Buccaneers will begin a national search for a new assistant coach immediately.
