LAKELAND, Fla.—The ninth-ranked Barry Buccaneers swept their softball doubleheader with the Florida Southern Moccasins on Sunday to take the series at Barnett Field, winning 4-0 in game one and 3-1 in the rubber game.

Taylor Sabol (4-3) picked up both wins in a brilliant performance. In the twinbill, she worked 11.1 innings, facing 38 batters, and threw just 94 pitches. She tossed a three-hit shutout in game one, then came on in the third inning of game two with the Bucs up 2-1 and retired 13 of 14 batters faced.

Game one was scoreless until the top of the fifth inning. With two outs, Kayla Ogle singled, stole second and came home on a single by Megan Copeland.

Barry (12-4, 2-1 SSC) added two more in the sixth. Julie Brito led off with an infield single and Christal Cruz came in to run. Cruz beat out the play at second as Britney Pugh laid down a bunt and both runners were safe. Two strikeouts later, Lexie Corrente walked to load the bases and Alexis Kent drilled a shot down the right field line to score two.

The Bucs closed the scoring in the seventh. Copeland singled and went to second on a wild pitch by Hannah Loyer. She would later score on a sacrifice fly by Pugh.

Brandi Jones (3-3) took the loss for the Mocs. She struck out 10 in six innings, but allowed three runs on five hits.

In game two, the Bucs got started early. Copeland singled and later scored on an error by Mocs’ third baseman Jordan Alexander.

In the second, Ashley Fernandez led off with a double and scored on a fly ball from Kent.

The Mocs (5-6, 1-2 SSC) trimmed the lead to one in the third off starter Pugh. Hannah Loyer led off with a double down the right field line. One out later, Kylee Stearns singled and Loyer went to third. Alexander hit a ground ball, but the Bucs were unable to get Stearns at second. Loyer had to hold at third and the bases were loaded.  The Bucs got Loyer at the plate when Christie Bailey grounded back to Pugh in the circle. But Leah Pemberton walked to drive in Stearns and Sabol came on in relief and got a ground ball to end the inning.

Barry reprised their run from the second inning in the fourth. Fernandez led off with a double and scored on a fly ball by Kent.

Chelsie Ogilvie (2-3) went the distance for the Mocs again, but took the loss. She allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits and struck out two.

The  Bucs travel to Georgia on Spring Break next week, playing a double dip with Fort Valley State on Wednesday, Mar. 5 and four games in the GCSU Round Robin against the host Bobcats and Newberry on Friday and Saturday.
