Baseball Jumps Eight Spots To No. 10 In National Poll
Planas-Arteaga and the Bucs face Palm Beach Atlantic Tuesday at 6 p.m.

INDIANAPOLIS – Barry University’s baseball team jumped eight spots in the NCAA Division II national rankings and the Bucs currently sit 10th.

No. 10 Barry (14-2) is riding a nine-game winning streak heading into Tuesday’s matchup against south region foe Palm Beach Atlantic at Feinbloom field. The Buccaneers recently defeated the fifth ranked Panthers of Florida Tech University in a non-conference matchup to help vault them into the top ten.

The Bucs are tearing the cover off the ball recently and are led by last week’s Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week Sheehan Planas-Arteaga who is currently hitting .481 with a conference leading .616 on-base-percentage.

The middle of the Bucs’ lineup is anchored by Adrian English and Tyler Kellman, but newcomers Branden Shaw and Greg Brodzinski have also added a mix of speed and power to the lineup.

Up the middle the combination of J.C. Cardenas at shortstop and Luis Rios-Reyes and Khalil Denson at second base have given the Buccaneers options plenty of production at the plate.

On the mound, Adrian Benitez headlines a young staff with a 3-0 record that includes two complete games and a 2.11 ERA.

Following Tuesday’s matchup against Palm Beach Atlantic, the Buccaneers will open SSC play on Friday in the first of a three-game set against Florida Southern at Feinbloom field.
