SKILLMAN, N.J. -- Barry University women's tennis coach Avi Kigel was named the National Coach of the Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Kigel also won the award in 2011. 

In his sixth year as head coach of the Buccaneers, Kigel has guided Barry to a 24-1 record and the No. 1 ranking in NCAA Division II. Barry's lone loss came to Division I North Florida, 5-4. 

The Buccaneers won the NCAA South Regional and Sunshine State Conference Tournament for the fifth straight year. They also claimed the first-ever SSC regular season title this season.

Kigel was also the ITA South Region Coach of the Year, an honor he also won in 2013.

Barry will open the NCAA Championships at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday against No. 42 Indiana (Pa.) in the Round of 16 at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla. Follow the match via LIVE SCORING
