Men's Soccer falls 1-0 to Sharks
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Barry men's soccer team fell to defeat in its Sunshine State Conference match against Nova Southeastern Wednesday, losing 1-0 at the NSU Soccer Complex.

The Bucs had a back-and-forth battle with NSU in the first half, but neither team scored before halftime despite deadly shots from both sides. Two shots on target by NSU forward Victor Nirennold forced big saves from goalkeeper Jimmy McGregor.

Barry was dangerous on counter attacks and nearly stole the lead in the 43rd minute. Midfielder Connor Randel fired a blast at the Nova goal, but NSU keeper Andrea Giombetti made a diving save to keep the match tied.

In the 58th minute, Nova defender Matthias Bruno sent a ball all the way forward from the back line to a streaking Nirennold. The striker kicked the ball goal ward from close range. McGregor made his eighth save on the night, but Nirennold took the rebound and put the Sharks ahead 1-0.

Despite the lead, NSU tried to extend its advantage. The Sharks doubled up the Bucs’ shot count in the second half, 12-6. McGregor would finish the match with 10 saves to keep the Bucs in the match until the end.

Barry men’s soccer must now quickly recover as it takes on SSC foe Tampa on Saturday, October 11 at Buccaneer Field with kickoff scheduled at 7:00 pm.
